Hobby Round up Week 13

I, Frazer Overlord of all, have been busy with Witches, cowboys, an industrial walker for IHMN and a couple of the Warlord plastic infantry to add to the British IHMN company and a Pegasus for Warhammer Elves

Unlucky for some?!

It's been busy on the Simon's workbench, anyone would think he's been off work 'ill'...

Simon has continued to build Next Door Matt's Chaos Marines; this week we have Terminators, Raptors and some magnetised Special Weapons.

Simon has also been busy paining World War 2 related figures at two scales, firstly the last of his 28mm Brits and then some more 15mm Brits

Neil has built some figures in anticipation of playing Lion Rampant, here we have six archers and six halberdiers

Chris continues to inflict hobby pain upon himself, he is currently painting a large collection of Night Goblins. The plastic figures are almost done, with just the metal, teeth, eyes and bases to do. The metal Netters & Clubbers and the Fanatics will follow.

Hobby Round up Week 11

Happy Mothers day!

Not a great deal of hobby to report this week.

First up, Neil has continued to plough through some Avatars of War 'Nurgle Warriors'. Having built them last week, now they have a white undercoat and in some cases a myriad of different inks

Simon continues to beaver away on his Space Wolves. His Terminator squad now has a few more colours on them.

Finally for this week we have Frazer's efforts. He continues to plough through the large amount of Dark Elf Witches he owns, but inches ever closer to bringing them to a Wednesday game.

Frazer has also continued to work on some Lonewolf Terminators....

... and whilst hunting through the garage, unearthed some of his Chaos Marine collection that will be hitting eBay soon.

Frazer & Simon Dark Elf and Space Wolf Work in Progress

Si has been working on his Space Wolves over the last weeks and his painting is really coming along, unlike his photography.  The underwhelming picture disguises an other wise talented painter!

I have been giving some love to the less than lovely Dark Elf Witches.  I returned to them after nearly a year of being nearly finished.  When I examined them they were far from finished and not as good as I remembered.  So I have repainted some parts of them and have tried to get a good table standard for these dirty ladies.  With my New Year's resolution of only playing with fully painted figures they won't be making it to the table this week.

Hobby Round up week 8

Welcome to week 8 of our hobby round up, after a quiet few weeks, this update is full of new and completed projects.

First up this week is Chris who has been on a bit of a construction frenzy. Dave has invested in Dropzone Commander and passed his figures to Chris and Frazer to paint.

Chris has been given the Post-Human Republic, and below are the content of the starter army box, all built and magnetised ready for spraying.

After building 80 plastic Night Goblins, Chris has been constructing the rest of this greenskins, with some Clubbers and Netters and a bakers dozen of Spider Riders

And finally, with Chris and Elliot's inaugural game of Malifaux scheduled for this Wednesday, Chris has constructed his crew of Ten Thunders.

Next up is Frazer; he has been also working on multiple projects. Fist up are some WW2 tanks for Dave, who is representing New Zealand in the coming months.
The tank on the left has been stripped with Biostrip before being painted to match the one on the right. Just the decals to do.

Frazer has also returned to his Dark Elves, here are a small percentage of his collection of Witch Elves. With another Bolt Thrower won on eBay, will we be seeing these guys back in the hut soon?

Next up is Simon who has been working on two different Space Marine chapters. Firstly some Space Wolf Long Fangs.

And some Crimson Fist close combat Terminators.

Simon is another member of the club doing work for Dave, this time is some SMG wielding Brits, a mortar spotter and forward observer.

Finally, a cryptic offering from Neil, what will sit on this base is a mystery, with nothing to scale it against it could be anything. Put your guesses in the comments and we'll see who is closest next week.

Dark Elf Raiders

Lord Elfrith used his pale skinned hand to shield his eyes from the low sun as he scanned the skyline.  He was looking for, actually expecting to see, a dark speck that would resolve into Lord Asbech on his dragon Viscous Mnementh.  Nothing.  He dropped his gaze, turned and walked back to his horse pulling on soft leather gloves as he did so.  He took the reins from the knight holding his horse and not wearing armour he swung easily up into the saddle.  Without a word he healed the horse into a gentle canter down into the valley, his bodyguard following behind.  The snaking ride down the hillside helped reduce the irritability he felt about being corralled in the valley for the last three days.  He wanted both war parties for the next attack but would proceed alone if necessary.  A dawn attack and a ruthless plan would replace the additional warriors he wanted.

On the same ridge, downwind, a figure shifted a musket from one rough hand to another, spat and replaced his unlit pipe. The figure moving smoothly from the cover of a small copse, heading down the other side of the hill and towards the city in the distance muttered to himself ‘I hate fuckin’ Elves’

Cauldron of Blood - Dark Elves Bath Time

I've had this on my paint station for over 3 years and have just never got round to painting it.  I think perhaps the nipples were putting me off; don't get me wrong I like nipples on a woman, not much point on a man, I'm with the Evil Genius (Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits) on that one.

As always I have other figures that are a higher priority that I should be doing.  Cold One Knights that I will need in a game soon for example, but I felt that I could finish it to an acceptable standard and it would be more fun.

It was.

Dark Elves: Victory at what price?

Lord Elfrith gazed into the fire his eyes unfocussed.  His mind recounting the battle and victory over the empire soldiers earlier that day.  His recollection of his spearmen being tossed into the air as enemy shells burst amongst their ranks was broken as the witches screamed and cavorted somewhere off to his right.  He had no idea what they were so happy about; a good number of them had been crushed under the broad wheels of the clanking, wheezing war engine that seemed so comical as it blundered across the field.

He called to his Valet “Risca where is Lady Esbete?
“She rests Sire” the Valet replied, “The winds were capricious and she nearly burned whilst battling the human wizard”
Lord Elfrith grunted “Leave her for the moment but have her attend me when she is able”
The moment of her triumph was still visible as an after image whenever he blinked; a dancing purple blot swam across his vision.  The burst of magic that momentarily eclipsed the noon day sun blinding her Pegasus and immolating the human wizard and his attendants; it was only by luck she cheated death herself.
Staring once more into the fire Lord Elfrith called after Risca “When you return bring me some more wine and a girl, no, two girls” pausing to toss his cigar onto the fire he stepped within his tent and shouted “and a clean boy”

Dark Elf Campaign Back Story

Commodore Elfrith ‘the Spiteful’ was on deck leaning on the taff-rail looking back at the rest of Kraken squadron; five ships all sleek lines and bestial prow following in his wake. They had been preying on shipping entering the Black Gulf for months, a score of prizes had been taken, and hundreds of slaves had been sent back to Naggaroth in tribute. The captain of the last merchantman taken had tried to save his life with information. He spun a story of treasure so fantastic it could not in all sense be ignored. It would provide in one raid tenfold that so far taken at sea. He now led his remaining fleet of cutthroats, brigands and murderers towards the Badlands and the coastal town of El Medi. Once the town was taken he would send out two columns to explore and recover the treasure.
There was a cry from the top mast, a ship had been sighted. Commodore Elfrith found the point on the horizon and raised his viewing glass. It was a Dwarf Ironclad making smoke. He called to his Cox’n to change course and signalled the squadron to make chase. One more prize before we go after the treasure he decided.
Unknown to the Commodore he and his Black Gulf Pirates were sailing into a long and bloody grudge

Kraken Host - Done!

Well it's been a while coming but my Dark Elf army is finished. It started with the Tale of X gamers (also on the blog) and the 1000 point challenge has continued as I got to grips with a gold medal winning bent army.

What I mean by finished is that I have the 2000 point army I set out to build plus a little bit more just to keep eveyone uncertain about what will be on the field of battle each week.  I will continue to add some units; I have just ordred some Daemonettes and some Gargoyles to build some Harpies for example but as my main focus of building, converting and painting it is finished.

What next?  Chaos warband of course, you're not a proper gamer without dabbling with the infernal powers

I've never met an Elf I liked...

I'm trailing in third placed with my completed Dark Elf army of 1000 points. With the end of January nipping at my heals I have to say that I'm quite happy to have made it. A house move, and the on-going DIY projects, significantly impacted on my time to get this finished. I have to thank my wife for allowing me to get some brush time despite the chaos that surrounds us.

Looking at my force and the pictures of my friends armies I begin to wonder if I've spent my points wisely. The High Elves have a lot of fire power and some hard hitting units, the Lizardmen are well Lizardmen and the new book may make them worse +++Sigh+++ and although the Skaven have yet to appear on this blog completed they are quite bent and only likely to get worse.

At least I can adjust my fall of shot after a few games with my new army. I have plenty of figures to build and a Hydra is certainty.

Writing this has made me realise that whilst it has taken 5 months to collect, build & paint this army, I really could have done it in 3! No, no no, NO! I wont be doing the next 1000 in 3 months. Or will I????

Of all the things we've tried as a group of gaming pals this is one of the most successful. Far better than the Annual painting challenge (a year to paint a single figure) . I've still to undercoat mine and the comp finished 2 weeks ago.

Sometimes You Have To Delf Deep

Here at long last are my two missing units for the Tale of competition. Both units require shields but as the Kraken shields i want are unavailable to mail order until tomorrow, they will just have to wait,

Only a sorceress to do and I will be back on target with 1000 points of untried elves with attitude

It's cold outside..

After much disruption I have finally managed to finish the Cold One Knights that are part of my tale of army. I now have November and December's to catch up on and I'll be back in the race.

With another week of holiday still to go I'm going to try and finish the next two units in one go.
