Blast from the Past

There's been a bit of a lull in posts over the past few weeks, so I thought it about time something new greeted our avid gamers and followers.

And here it is... Blood of the Zombies...the new Fighting Fantasy novel from Ian Livingstone.

Its hard to believe that its been 30 years since this series began, and I'm sure most, if not all of the Lone Wolves have had a go at one of these books in the past. Maybe not Elliot as he wasn't born when they first appeared on our bookshelves, mind you I would have only been two, so must have read the reprints!

Anyway, Blood of the Zombies, has just come out to celebrate these 30 years and it has just flopped through my letterbox (fnah fnah!) and looks like it will be a load of fun to fight through.
In the olden days I would just read through and pretend I'd beaten each boss, but im determined to play this one properly, so pencil, rubber and dice at the ready; wish me luck.

I'll report back when and if I survive the apocalypse...

  1. I loved the old FF books and still have a load floating around somewhere... I don't remember any about zombies, but I am lucky enough and old enough to remember when they first came out in the early 80's so the later ones may have passed me by... How you play them is very important, do you whisk past the fights and lose some of the excitement or do you play properly and risk several restarts? The top books for me were the 'magic' series. A more complicated FF adventure with a story arcing over four books, the final book comprising of 800 'entries'! Cheap FF books can be found on fleabay for those wanting to have a look...

  2. This is a brand spanking new one to celebrate the 30th anniversary, and like I said I would like to play it properly, but in bed before lights out maybe difficult, especially if the dice disappears into the sheets somewhere!

  3. Oh the old "dice in the sheets" gag eh?
I've got the measure of you!

FF books are one of the reasons I'm in this hobby! They affected me from an early age. I bought deathtrap dungeon (classic!) and Islansd of the lizard king with some book tokens on christmas and never looked back!
My favourite ever was a later one, think it was creature of chaos or something where you played a monster!
There was even a plot twist!
The magic (sorcery?) series was indeed good.

    Looking forward to a review!

    1. You are right, twas 'sorcery', not 'magic'... And I think the FF book you are thinking of is 'creature of havoc'... One of my faves too!

  4. I played a couple they were quite good fun. I don't have as much positive nostalgia about them as you all do though
