Blue on Green

The first fight of the Campaign took place on Wednesday as the Tau faced off against the Orks.

Before the battle we rolled off for our Warlord traits and I remembered that these would stick for the duration of the campaign (so if you have a re roll option for the formation you're using bear it in mind for your first game!)

Uzgut Foulbowel has "Bellowing Tyrant" trait allowing re rolls of morale and pinning tests to Ork units within within 12". Nice
The unknown Tau Commander of mystery rolled something mysterious (Elliot? I think it was a 6!)

On to the battle, we rolled up the "Escalation" mission, his seemed fitting for a first encounter, and got ready to fight!
Ork Army Ready to Deploy

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Commander Pal'Ton's Pathfinders had reported a large Ork force had been seen blazing their way to the Imperial's old Basilica. Seeing this as a defensible area the Commander formed his army up on the outskirts of the ancient building and waited.
He could see the large clouds of smoke from the Ork's ramshackle vehicles billowing above the ruins in the distance and knew it wouldn't be long before they were within weapon range.......

The Orks quickly spotted the Tau defenders and got the lootas into position to lay down some fire as the trukks and buggies zoomed into combat

It was long way to the Tau lines (thanks to the lengthways deployment of the mission!) and their advanced guns took a heavy toll on the Orks

But the Orks moved up their own powerful (but less advanced) guns killing fire warriors and knocking chunks out of the Riptides armour

After a few turns of being heavily shot at the Ork Battle wagons were within range to disgorge their troops and a hasty defensive line was drawn up by the Tau battlesuits aided by the omnipotent hand of the North

But the heavy Ork vehicles Tank shocked their way through to deploy large Slugga Boy Mobs into the Fire Warriors lines, hitting a Broadside suit in the same combat.
The Mega- Armoured Nobz launched from their trukk and smashed into the reeling Battlesuits wiping out all five for no loss and then eyed up a bigger prize......

The slugga boyz that had mugged the fire warriors and broadside now had to weather incoming fire from broadside units, path finders and riptides. The cover they clung too was all but useless thanks to Tau markerlights.
But the bloodthirsty Nob managed to hold the 3 remaining boyz to mount a desperate assault on the Pathfinders unit in ruins,,,,,

Warlord Uzgut and his depleted unit of footslogging shoota boyz saw their chance for a good fight and with a WAAAGH slammed into one of the riptides as Cragtoof's Choppas hit the other. The Mega nobz hit a fire warrior unit (code named speed bump!). Despite getting lumps knocked out of the them the Riptides remained standing, just, but locked in combat.

With only the damaged riptides, 2 broadsides and a unit of  Pathfinders (in combat) left on the field the Tau though better of it and jet packed off leaving the basilica to the Orks and the Vogen veteran, Uzgut!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Reminding Elliot (because he has read the campaign rules, sure, sure) we had experience to roll for he chose one of his Riptides to gain a roll on the gunnery chart gaining Tank Hunters.

As the winner I had 2 choices for units and chose Azog's Ardnutz (meganobz) who rolled on the melee table to gain furious charge, however as they already have this skill I was able to pick from the table choosing Fearless instead.
My second unit was Cragtoofs Choppas who gained hit and run (hmmm, not sure that's useful?)

===============================

So with no more fighting we move onto the next round of moves and with it a map upgrade! We now have pins! See the key to the right of the picture for army colours.

Finally a quick tot up of Victory Point Totals:
Simon 5
Elliot   9
Neil   14 (the basilica yields nothing to a non imperial army!)
Matt  13
Chris  6

Remember - you need at least 8 VPs to attack the Palace.

However the void shield controls are in the hands of the Orks and the shields remain UP!

Say Hello to the Boyz

As the weirdboy's muttering died away so did the green, electrical energy that was popping through the air. After coughing up a large gobbet of phlegm the wizened old weirdboy turned to his Warboss that was looming nearby.
"Boyz sez theres a fight brewin' back on Khai-Zann, sum city named..."

"VOGEN!!!", the red eyes of the Warboss glinted.

"..err, yeah. Boyz sez there's beakies all over and...."

"Oi, Kaptin, turn this crate around!"
Warboss Uzgut Foulbowel, Grand Overlord of the Kyn Shm system, turned to face the greenskin throng that had assembled on the command deck of the Killkroozer...
"Boyz, we'z goin' back to Vogen!!"

A raucous "WAAAGHHHH" echoed around the large chamber only to drowned out by the noise of the kroozer's massive engines firing up....

Hobby Round up week 9

Happy St David's Day!

So to kick off this week, we have our resident Welshman Neil.

Last week he teased us with a base for a non specific model, well this week we can reveal it is for an Ork Warboss on Bike. The model is from Forgeworld with the head changed to a Maxmini Tech Freak one.

Chris has started work on Dave's Dropzone Commander figures, with the first coats of green making their way on to the tanks.

He has also done the base colours on ten Martians from Mantic's Mars Attacks game

Wednesday War - Dead Man's Hand - 40K

This week games played were Warhammer 40K, two pick up games, and the final game for the first round of the Dead Man's Hand Legend campaign.

Fill your hand you son of a bitch!

Matt and Frazer played 'There will be blood' in scene one the two protagonists resolve their disagreement by using the player cards as in blackjack.  Scenes two and three include all the gang members and the end of each scene resolves injuries and replacement gang members.

The town is quiet, too quiet.

The crooked Sheriff John Stockburn and his two equally crooked deputies head into the saloon

Deputy Granger and Stockman Nathanial Reed disagree over a game of poker and take it to the street.

The gangs assemble and as on of the Deputies lines up a shot on Big Mac and his regulators Trixie steps from the shadows and fires her derringer at close range.  Always pay the whores what they are owed...!

Trixie's unmodified role - The upstanding (?) citizen card

It's scene three and Big Mac and his regulators have increased their gang by one and quickly gain the upper hand over Sheriff Stockburn and his men

Rufus Buck ends the final scene with both barrels of his shot gun and justice has been served.

A very one sided game where Frazer could do no wrong when it came to dice rolling.  The cards never really helped Matt and at the end of the first campaign turn the Lawmen were burying one man and had a few injuries to show for their trouble.  Frazer's cowboys didn't even get shot at in the final scene and their rep soared to 19 as the gang recruited and purchased guns and horses.

Sector 9 Raiders inbound

This week saw the return of the Dark Eldar as they continue their raiding along the fringe of the Ultima Segmentum.

Six objectives were scattered around the debris, with some being worth more than others.

All quiet in sector 9

Under direction of the Librarian Maxim

Both sides tentatively used their respective flanks to scout the field of battle, both wary of committing to the biggest scoring objective in the centre of a patch of open ground.

The two squads of Venom mounted incubi were interrupted by a drop pod  full of death company, but their fears were unfounded as after two rounds of combat, all the death company were dead, for the loss of one dark Eldar..

Sitting pretty, they were soon in trouble as a pincer attack from the incubi and Wracks wiped them out.

Naked weirdo's waiting for the next hover bus.  All the red men have left

The dark Eldar jet bikes went for the right flank but were met in force by the librarian and assault marines that had previously been taking shelter in the sand bagged region, and were wiped out.

With time running out (turn 5) the blood angels went for the major objective, taking out the Ravager as they went.

The final jet bike is crushed.

Too little too late the Blood Angels head of to find close combat.

With only the terminators left to grab any objectives, it was all over, as the dark Eldar swarmed all around mopping up their enemies.

Ere we go, Ere we go, Ere we go!

This week Neil and Si smashed heads as Orks and Space Wolves met head on in the inevitable short edge game.

Battlefield ready

Si check his adding up.  Always prepared!!

The Orks spill forth shoulder to shoulder.

Lone Wolf Si shows the greenskins a clean pair of boots before he and his retinue are overwhelmed by numbers
More boyz on the way

The terminators get stuck in and do well in the first round of combat but the second round sees 56 dice for the orks v 9 for the wolves.  Everyone knows how this will end and it does

Everything is piled forward on both sides

Despite some significant losses and a good number of objectives held the Space Wolves casualties mount and the ork objective total creeps up

Whilst the battle still has some legs it's clear that the Orks have won.  The VP's are in their favour and so is the number of units still in action

Back to the drawing board for the Space Wolves.  40K - It's your own fault...

Ork Battlewagon - March!

In a gross miscalulation in the number of figures I have in my Ork army (I'm sure I had another 12 boyz painted) I have borrowed a few figures for the Royal Round Robin this week.  However in an effort to show some kind of progress I have dipped this Battlewagon.  I have the gunners to do but they may have to wait for another day

Meanwhile...

Waaagh is coming...!

With only a few weeks until the royal wedding preperations are well under way; and along with it my 1000 point list for the royal gaming round robin.

After a bit of umming and ahhing I have come in at 999 points.  I stopped worrying about whether I could beat this army or what i need verus that army and just took what I had and will do the best I can with that.
