Hobby Updates

Another week has passed and we've snuck into November, so lets see what our club members have been working on over the last seven days.

Simon has been continuing to work on his Space Wolves. He has finished his Iron Priest and four Servitors to go with him

He has also began work on a couple of APC's and after a purchase from Bits & Kits has got a fully built Dreadnaught ready for painting.

Frazer continues to paint some In Her Majesty's Name figures for Dave and some Warriors of Chaos for himself.

I have finished painting some Flames of War tanks for Dave. I only realised I had some Stars and Stripes decals, after painting some by hand on the back of two tanks, but they turned out fine so they can stay.

Hobby Updates

Has a week gone by already?

First up this week, after the picture of a smashed Dark Angel base, is the creature that is now finished.

I picked up a Carnifex when Hobby Craft were having a clear out and had 33% off Games Workshop stuff; and after finishing most of my unpainted models, I fancied a change.
Whether this will lead to any other Tyranids, I don't know, but this monster wasn't the only thing I picked up cheap that day!

Since finishing the Carnifex, I have been working on some Flames of War American tanks for Dave

Lordybloke played his first game in our new Dead Mans Hand campaign, and decided it was as good a time as any to do some more painting on his Banditos. With three down six half done and plenty more undercoated, this is going to be one big Mexican gang

Zed continues on his Warrior of Chaos painting with more warriors ready for dipping. Hopefully we'll have a completed unit(s) for you next week.

Cortez is another Lonewolf who has his fingers in many pies. As well as building WW2 models for Zed, he is also painting his Space Wolves and 15mm British for Battlegroup.

Hobby Updates

Welcome to a new regular series of posts, showing the painting and modelling that the member's of Lone Wolves have been up to during the week

First up, Zed has been busy on a number of projects, for himself and some commission work for Dave.

After a while concentrating on other games, Zed has now returned to the world of Warhammer Fantasy Battle, and has begun work on some Warriors of Chaos.

Zed's latest commission is some In Her Majesties Name figures for Dave. After destroying Binx in an intro game, Dave has decided to invest so that he can take on other Lone Wolves when he gets the chance to come on a Wednesday night.

Next up we stay in the world of Chaos, but this time is NDM's debut on the blog, as he makes his first venture into painting. Having only been enjoying the hobby for a few months NDM was hesitant about showing off his first attempt, but I'm sure we'll agree in saying for a first model its pretty good, and much like everyone else, the more painting you do, the better you will get. Nothing but good things on the horizon from NDM.

Finally a cryptic offering from Binx; that's me!. The plan this year was to finish painting everything that I have, and I'm very close to achieving that, but fancied something else. So here is the start of that 'something else', a scenic base for a one off model. Check back next week to see if it is finished.

More Yanks for Dave

More Americans off the production line, this time with pictures taken in the sunshine.

Only a dozen or so bases/tanks/infantry left to do.

American Tractors

Some time back I sold all my 15mm WW2 Americans on eBay, most of it went over seas, but some stayed in the  UK, and more specifically Dave bought it... He would have bought it all, had it not been for a poorly timed shower...

Anyway, Dave's asked me to do some more Americans for him and here is the first batch, some tractors for his 155mm artillery.

Commision & WIP

Me again, well we've had our 1st game of new 40k and a few nice little tweaks here and there so more games needed before we'll really know how good/bad the new system is.

Anyway enough random witterings and down to the fun stuff, the Lonewolves recently had a good deal with Triplehelix and were able to bolster our forces when we picked up the new rules and amonst it all were some more wolves for myself and 2!! yep thats right 2!! Stormtalons for Johnny Boy. As Mr T isn't one for sticking or painting I offerd up my services for this little job.

Knightmare

Yes, it was a great TV series on ITV in the late 1980's early 1990's Click here if you're not familiar with it.

Anyway a few pictures for you today; firstly an Empire General on Griffin, painted for Cyrus' campaign army.

Next are three Vargheists, from pre campaign test games it was clear that some fast moving creatures were needed and hopefully these will do the truck.

And finally, thanks to Games Workshop creating duel kits, like the Vargheist/Crypt Horrors and Bitzbox stocking the parts used by both creatures, I have been able to build these for £12.00 rather than the £29.00 that they retail for.

Now they're not currently in any of my campaign armies, but if I'm lucky enough to get some extra points to play with, who knows....

Fallschirmjäger changed my life...

No not really but they changed the way I approach my chosen hobby.

I have always painted my own figures. Over the years I have painted figures for others, friends and sometimes for eBay. I never thought I would pay someone else to paint them for me because painting and modelling are as important to me as actually gaming it is part of the holy trinity of the hobby. I was excited when I took the plunge starting Flames of War after more than a decade of GW games my enthusiasm was rekindled as I discovered a new seam of hobby gold.

What I wasn't ready for was my impatience; I no longer have the free time I once did and I had given myself double the trouble by purchasing both axis and allies armies so that I could encourage one of my pals to play with zero investment.

While I was painting my Panzergrenadiers and all the problems of moving from 28mm to 15mm started to reveal themselves, I started to look round for someone to help me out with the painting.

There are plenty of choices on the Internet and the prices vary a fair amount; after a lot consideration I went cheap and had my British Airborne Paratroopers painted by an online commission painter. What I got in return was ok but definitely gaming standard. I wasn't unhappy but it wasn't as good as I hoped. So I persevered with my own work and I improved by the time I was finishing my Panzergrenadiers. Infantry are definitely more of a chore than a pleasure and some of this is because I didn't know what I am painting, or what colour it should be.

So now we get to the Fallschirmjäger in question. I bought the company box set because they were nearly 50% off, did I need them? No. Had I planned to build a Fallschirmjäger company? No, in standard gamer mode I bought them because they were cool and cheap. Pretty much at the same time a Fallschirmjäger company was selling on eBay, I contacted the seller, Matt @ Tarnowski's Table, and discussed commissions, timescales prices (double what I had previously paid) and committed myself to paying once again. To fund this project I cleared some of my lead mountain and very quickly covered the costs

The results are excellent and this is an area where you truly get what you pay for.

If you have the money or can fund it out of the surplus of never to be started/finished projects you should give it some thought.

Mantic.... What?! I mean Necromantic...

So with the Lonewolves Challenge Cup proper only 1 month away and the NAF Championship 2 months away, its that time of year where I build and paint a new team.
So here is a Necromantic team I've painted for Cyrus! Next up are my Rats...

Game over Man!!

A Tyranid Hive Tyrant done for Cyrus's son ( yeah right!) hopefully will inspire him to crack on with the rest of the army in time for the next 40k campaign.

The flash makes the highlights look a bit more extreme than they really are...

Paint Station

Not much action on the Blog recently so I thought that a quick snap of my WiP would have to do for the moment.  The stroll by painting is back up and running and the occassional 10 mins of brush time I can grab as I walk past adds up over a week.

More Ultramarines - the Flash changes the results slightly

Marvelous

Not only does this complete my painting for this months 'Son of a Tale of X gamers' but also finally gives Jonno his Marneus.

Finally finished, just in time for the Ultramarines to have someone to lead them into battle as the Marines get their 2nd turn in the Apocolypse game we're currently running.

And no I don't know why Marneus has a blue background and the others are darker and have a pinky one...
