Frazer's Hobby Update

Here is what I have been working on over the last week

I have started some Dropzone figures for Dave, the initial requirement for infantry is done and the first drop ship is in the process of getting magnets attached.  I am planning an urban camouflage scheme for all the vehicles.

I have also knocked out some sheep and chickens to add a bit of character to the various 28mm games we play.  Ideal for any period from the Dark Ages to WW2 and beyond.

Also I have to transform the metal looking Panzer III into the two tone camouflage scheme; again for Dave in preparation for him attending the ETC Tournament in Prague as part of the New Zealand team for Flames of War

Hobby round up 2015 week 3

Week three already!?

This week its all about building things.

First up we have Simon, who has been building, err... buildings...

At last years Salute we spent a large amount of the club funds on some 4ground buildings to increase the amount of scenery in our WW2 games. Once back home in Bristol we gave them all to Simon who built them all for us.

This is the Hotel complex, including Stables which he has recently finished.

Next on his building list, is this Norse Longhouse, which we'll be using when we begin Elliot's Saga campaign.

Talking of Elliot, between writing the rules for the campaign, he has been building some reinforcements for his Warriors of Chaos Nurgle force.

With The End Times introducing some beautiful new models, a few of us have invested in some figures, which will hopefully hit the battlefield soon

The final Saga Skraeling post

Its take about 18 months but finally my 6pts of Saga Skraeling are finished.

Here is a group shot, and hopefully they'll all make it to the battlefield when Klepto's Saga campaign begins in 2014.

4th Point of Skraeling

They're never ending!

After a 3 week break from painting, whilst the sun was out, I have managed to paint another 9 Skraeling, this time including the Warlord.

Now, the pictures not the best, and although the Warlord is painted, the base needs a little something else to snazz it up, but as yet I haven't found anything suitable, but be rest assured once I find and add something you'll be the first to know

The Big Dux

Binx and I are planning a second outing of Dux Bellorum this Wednesday and with that in mind I thought it a good time to post a pic of my completed Welsh Warlord and faithful chums.

The banner and shield designs are all Little Big Man studios transfers.
The base is a modified 4Ground movement tray.

And here he is ready to continue the fight in Saga, his loyal bard proclaiming songs of his heroic deeds!

'Saga' and 'Musket & Tomahawk' Indians

You wait for ages for a new post and 3 turn up at once....

Anyway, whilst I was painting my Blood Bowl Nurgle, all other painting slowed to an almost standstill, but now I'm back in the game.

I have finished a unit of 12 levies for my Saga Skraeling.

When I painted my first two units of Skraeling warriors, I took a lot of time on the skin (probably too much) and was worried that I, A: wouldn't be able to replicate it and B: doing it would drive me insane with the next 25 models I have.

So when it came to painting these, I took a different approach. Instead of doing a handful of mixed colours, I made the jumps a lot bigger, going from Tanned Flesh, with a flesh ink wash, to Dwarf Flesh to Elf Flesh, with a final light ink wash to hide the cloudiness of the colours.

The final result looks very similar, if not the same as my previous work, meaning that my Skraeling will be done a lot quicker, and not stress me out as much as anticipated

Before moving on to some more Skraeling, I have now moved onto my 15/18mm Musket & Tomahawk French force, starting, as I had the correct colours on my paint station, with the Indian.

They only took a few hours, including a dinner break, so I have now started on another unit, which I will no doubt blog about soon. For now here is a preview of the completed Indian unit.

2pts of Skraeling

My painting continues, and I have finished another unit of Skraeling for Saga.

Below are pictures of the new unit and the previous unit. I took advantage of a sunny morning to get some decent pictures.

I did have a unit of Levies lined up next to be painted, but with the NAF Championship creeping up on me, I have decided to make a start on my Nurgle Blood Bowl team. Sadly this will probably stop me from finishing my Skraeling by the time Salute comes around.

Injuns

I've paused my German painting for a while and have moved on to painting some Skraeling for Saga.

We haven't played enough Saga since some of us first encountered it at Salute last year, hopefully, once the rest of my force are done we will play some more of this very good game

As these figures have so much more flesh showing than a lot of models I've painted recently , I decided to undercoat them white, not only to get a much cleaner and brighter finish to the skin, but also to allow me to use some older skin coloured paints that would struggle to cover a black undercoat in less than 2 or 3 layers.

You may notice that this first unit do not have any war paint, this is mainly due to me not being confident of being able to paint if well. I am worried that it will look too artificial and ruin the over all finish of the models.
I may be more adventurous in the future and may go back and some to these figures if it goes well.

All Your Bases Are Belong To Us Now

My Saga rules and box of Conquest Games Norman Knights arrived, so I've been assembling the start of my warband.

So far, I have completed:

4 Milites (Hearthguard)

2 Pueri (Warriors)

...And my warlord, Reynard du Ponce (He'll have a servant or two added to his base before I finish)

There are a few more Milites to go, but now I'm just waiting on the release of Conquest's plastic Norman infantry, and I'll be ready to invade!

Viking Shield Transfers

I  bought some Vikings to play saga.  This is my test figure.  What I would like to highlight is the shield.  It is a transfer which results in a far more interesting and detailed shield than I am or ever likely to be able to produce.

I would like to thank Rich at Battle Flag for his excellent service as well as an excellent product.  I asked whether his tranfers were the correct size for the metal shields I have, from gripping beast, he said he would order some and rescale to fit.  Excellent but not the end.  Due to a delay with the shields, not Rich's fault, he supplied twice as many shield transfers as I had ordered and a couple of flags at no extra cost.

Going Berserk!

All this Dark Age action with Saga knocking about got me looking at my Vikings again.
I'm not planning on starting the Viking army until I finish my Celts  (soon?!) but couldn't resist having a go at some models, dipping of course!

They may see action in Saga in the meantime but with a few other Viking warbands on the prowl they may get used as Jomsvikings to be a bit different. Thats only if I fancy a change from the Welsh of course!

First up, berserkers. These boys sit in the viking units until the enemy get close and they can contain themselves no more

and a unit of Ulfhednar. They play differently to berserkers in WAB (more of a skirmish unit) but I'd probably use these models as berserkers in Saga

Hey how are you...

Today the post man delivered me some Skraelings from Gripping Beast to be used in their SAGA game.

The 4pt starter army contains, 1 Warlord, 3x 8 warriors (8 different poses) and 12 levies (4 different poses), my pack also came with their unique battle board and a double sided A4 set of rules for this faction.

As a club we aren't planning to actively play SAGA for a little while, so these guys will be going somewhere safe while I concentrate on finishing my Dark Eldar, FoW Yanks and 28mm Germans...
