Zero to Hero

As I was playing 40k, I've let Lordybloke, head coach of the Coffin Dodgers give the low down on the final of the Challenge Cup 2010

The final of the Lone Wolves Blood Bowl League 2010 had finally arrived.
Both teams had taken the delay to get a bit of extra training in to make sure they were fully match fit for what was to be a grave spectacle. The Coffin Dodgers came on to the pitch looking sharp, the ball was thrown easily from hand to skeletal claw and back again during warm up and the sun glinted from the fresh embalming fluid covering their bodies (inducements meant 2 extra team training rerolls and a bloodweiser babe).
Unfortunately the delay had taken its toll on the undead fans, many only resurrected for the length of the season, and the scaly followers dominated the stands.
The Lizards stalked onto the pitch following their sojourn to a tropical beach to soak up the sun that super charged their cold blood.

The lizards kicked off to the dead dudes.

A rumour spun round the stadium as the ball spun high in the air. The Saurian Storm's ship to the island of sun had somehow lost its course and ended up in a Norscan fjord! The lizard blood was flowing like treacle!

The kick barely made over the line and was so high it gave Lug-gug the muscle bound ghoul plenty of time to get under it, catch it and blitz the scaly defenders, with a little help from The Duke of Spook, and set off down field with fellow ghoul, Orfug on his heels.
The lizards could do little to stop the pair and an early touchdown was scored, handing the ball back to the Storm.

The Storm were trying to work their classic sideline play but with saurus tripping over their own feet, the mighty krox getting crocked for the game and another ghoul pairing getting in the way of a near skink touchdown the ball was spilled. The ghouls capitalised, pounced on the ball and ran up the centre for a second. More failed skink dodging brought the half to a close, Dodgers 2-0 but both sides doing ok as far as casualties went.

2nd half
The Storm were really chasing the game but still hadn't warmed up enough and another slippage saw the Dodgers steal the ball again and after a small delay and a threat of a throw that never happened, run in a third.
The match was drawing on but suddenly the lizards looked a little lively although they had lost a few skinks along the way by now. Blocks saw undead being slammed into the ground but Lug-gug stepped up again to blitz a ball carrying skink into the solid wall that was a mummy who promptly flattened the skink leaving the ball to drift free of the scrum that was around it and into the hands of another happy ghoul.

A little bit of scrambling later and the fourth touchdown was scored.
With minutes on the clock the Storm looked for a consolation score and re set for the classic play once more. Sadly it wasn't to be as some further ghoul and wight interruption caused more ball spillage towards another waiting ghoul who only had to dodge a skink, scoop up the ball and run in the fifth!!!!

The dodge failed! Game ends 4-0 to the Dodgers who are now fully vindicated from last years defeat!!
All credit to Mr Cyrus who managed to remain good humoured despite the absolutely appalling (X10) dice rolls that were coming up.

Bring on the 2011 league!!

The rules for the 4th challenge cup are ready to go, will we see a new champion or will Binx or Lordybloke claim another title? 9 Months til kickoff....

Lone Wolves Challenge Cup 2010 The Grand Final

This years final is between the Coffin Dodgers and the Saurian Storm, in what has been a big turn around from last years competition.
In a little know fact the Dodgers and the Kithband Warriors (Cyrus's previous team) came joint bottom in last years competition, the Dodgers reduced to last place due to the Warriors beating them in the season.

The Undead coach Lordybloke will be looking for his 2nd title after winning the challenge cup in the 1st year with Hushut's Purple Helmets.
He has already beaten the Storm this season but history shows that this is not a good omen for the final as in previous years the league result has been reversed in the decider. The Storm will be hoping to take the cup and be the 3rd different winner in 3 years.

As well as the grand final there will also be the announcement of coach of the season as voted for by the head coaches of all 8 teams who began the season.

Lets hope for a good competative game and then the 9 month wait for the 4th challenge cup.

Lone Wolves Challenge Cup 2010 Final Results

Well all the league games are finally out of the way and we now know which 2 teams will meet in the final

Storner Stoneheads 1 - 1 Coffin Dodgers (Attendance 33,000)

A big crowd turned up to see if the Dodgers could finish the campaign unbeaten. A shaky start saw the Stoneheads take an early lead. The crowd was getting uneasy and a series of riots in the pouring rain caused havoc, shortening the game by almost a 1/4.
In the 2nd half the Dodgers regained some dignity by levelling the game up before yet more riots put pay the chance of a winner.
So the Dodgers finished the season unbeaten, but could they finish top of the table....

Saurian Storm 3 - 0 Orcland Raiderz

With nothing to lose the Raiderz came equipped to kill, and hopefully cripple the Storm before their game in the final. It looked like they would achieve their goal when early in the 1st half the skink apothecary was called on to nurse one of the saurus back to full health.
Cold blooded player after cold blooded player started to make their way to the infirmary as eventually 4 of the lizards were carted off the pitch.
This didn't seem to phase the Storm as they racked up 3 touchdowns to take an easy win and finish top of the table.
The Raiderz fell to a 6th place finish with the Stoneheads leap frogging them in the final week of the season.

So in 2 weeks time its the Saurian Storm vs the Coffin Dodgers for the coveted Lone Wolves Challenge Cup, can the Dodgers gain their head coach his 2nd trophy in 3 years or will the Storm take the title??

Lone Wolves Challenge Cup 2010 Week 7 - Results

The competition is rapidly coming to an end, not soon enough for some teams.

Bearded Clams 2 - 0 Storner Stoneheads ( Attendance 26,000 )

A good crowd turned out for the Clams final game of the season against the hated rival Chaos Dwarfs, neither team was playing for anything but pride but the Clams were not going to sit down and be counted.
With the bright sunshine beaming down on the pitch, the Stoneheads received but after some crazy throwing attempts trying to get their star bull centaur on the run failed the Clams soon had the ball and made the big hatted dwarfs pay. 1-0 at half time.

The Clams received the ball at the start of the 2nd half and after a quick snap were able to push one centaur off the pitch and tie up the other. A slow progression down the pitch eventually saw the Clams go 2-0 up as the Chaos Dwarf team started to dwindle. Only a crazy last minute Chaos Dwarf dodge and blitz helped save the Clams from going 3-0 up in the dying minutes of the game.

With this win the Clams will probably finish 4th, the 1st time in 3 years Binx has not finished top of the table. Maybe humans again next year?
The Stoneheads remain 6th but with a win next week and a Orcland Raiderz loss could see them finish 5th.

Invaders 0 - 3 Coffin Dodgers (Attendance 24,000)

The most important game of the season saw the resurgent Invaders take on the unbeaten Dodgers, both teams needed a win knowing a loss would see them out of the final.

A brutal 1st half saw the Invaders do everything in their power to throw the game away, the ball was like a greased pig and would not remain in the beastmens furry palms. The Invaders on the other hand were loving it and after 8 1st half turns the Invaders led by an unassailable 2 TD's to 0.

The 2nd half started with some trickery, as the kick off landed the ball transmuted into 2 balls, causing mass confusion in the Chaos ranks. Not knowing which was the real ball the Chaos took both of them the length of the pitch only for them to be stolen by the Undead who promptly took one into the endzone to make it 3-0.

The Invaders loss meant that they would finish at least 3rd, an improvement on their 1st venture into Blood Bowl but not good enough for their coach who will no doubt be sacrificed to some god spawn type creature.

The Dodgers, progressed to the final, still unbeaten. Next week they face their nemesis the Chaos Dwarfs. One of the Dodgers Ghouls will miss the next match but has been reportedly been undergoing surgery to increase his strength to a mighty 4!

The final weeks match between the Invaders and Warpstone Wanderers has been awarded to the Chaos after the Skaven advised the league they would not be attending. All results have been added to the league.

Lone Wolves Challenge Cup 2010 Week 5

Week 5 is over and it was full of surprises....

Tuesday night saw the belated game between the Saurian Storm and the Storner Stoneheads

Saurian Storm 2 - 0 Storner Stoneheads (Attendance 25,000)

A blizzard greeted the two teams and they really started feeling its effects early on with both of the Stonehead's Bull Centaurs leaving the game early on.
The game was a close run thing but the superiority and player advantage came to the fore with a Lizard victory.

Wednesday saw 2 games played ( the Warpstone Wanderers gaining 3 pts due to a walk over against the Fangorn Rangers)

Storner Stoneheads 1 - 0 Orcland Raiderz (Attendance 26,000)

After their late finish the night before the Stoneheads were made to wait by the late arrival of the Raiderz and the fatigue showed on their faces
The Raiderz team, low on energy and morale after losing 2 players last week were poor, twice coming one 2+ roll away from scoring, they were doomed to defeat as the dice were not on their side.
A late score in the 1st half by the Stoneheads was the only TD in the game, although the Orcs could have levelled it up several times but lady luck was not on their side.

Saurian Storm 3 - 0 Invaders (Attendance 26,000)

What was anticipated to be a close game became a walk over that could have been 4 or even 5!
With the inability to pick up the ball or control their Minotaur the Invaders were never in the game, only touching the ball for 1 turn.
The Storm continued their impressive week with another win which puts them 2nd in the table. The Invaders losing their 1st game of the season drop to 4th with a very important game against the Bearded Clams next week with only 10 players available.

No deaths this week to report on

Lone Wolves Challenge Cup 2010 Week 4 - Results

3 Games this week after the Chaos Dwarves contracted Nurgles rot and are now scheduled to play the Saurion Storm on Tuesday

Invaders 2 - 0 Fangorn Rangers (Attendance: 16,000)

The Chaos remained unbeaten after a 2-0 win over the elves. Little did the fans know but this would be the last time they would see the Rangers on the pitch this season.
The Rangers had a few attempts to score but horendous luck, denied them time and again. The Invaders took their chances and witha 1-0 lead at the half made it 2-0 late in the game.
The big shock was at the end of the game when the Wood Elf head coach pulled his team out of the league, there was much uproar in the stands and as of yet no statement from the Elf coach to address their fans disappointment.

Orcland Raiderz 0 - 1 Bearded Clams (Attendance: 30,000)

A record crowd braved an early downpour to watch the unbeaten Raiderz lose out to the Dwarfs.
Early problems in picking up the ball gave a chance to the dwarfs who took it and stole the lead at the mid point of the 1st half.
The 2nd half was a bit of a mess, bodies flying all over the place. It was the Clams who came out on top though, slaying a 2 orcs in a bitter blood bath.
A late stumble by the Dwarfs runner saw the 2-0 slip from their grasp, and a dropped pass from a Black Orc was all that stopped the Orcs levelling it up late in the game

Warpstone Wanderers 0 - 2 Coffin Dodgers (Attendance: 16,000)

It was top vs bottom and it showed, even with some tricky plays from the rats, the superiority of the Undead shone through in the end.
With the score at 0-0 at half time the Rats were pleased with themselves but with a stern team talk the Dodgers soon sorted themselves out and scored twice in the 2nd half.
Even with the aid of a bombardier the rats couldn't do any damage and the 2 Undead players sent to the infirmary myseriously regenrated and were able to join their team mates in the end of match team bath.

Lone Wolves Challenge Cup 2010 Week 3 - Results

Bearded Clams 1 - 1 Coffin Dodgers (Attendance 26,000)

A Huge crowd gathered to see the Dwarfs and the Undead go at in a hastily rearranged and controversial match, and they weren't disappointed.

The Dodgers received the opening kickoff and hastily advanced down their left flank. Things looked too easy as the Clams were soon 2 players down and a long way off stopping the advancing ghoul train. Fans couldnt believe thier eyes as the undead began to try and give the ball to their star ghoul blodger instead of just running it into the endzone for an early score. A few fumbled handoffs later and the dwarfs had their hands on the ball but soon lost it again as the extra numbers helped the undead. Eventually the pressure paid off and Dodgers took the lead late in the 1st half.

With only a few momnets left in the 1st half the Clams made a swift attempt to score but in unknown terriatory their new wide receiver blocker fell on his face a few yards short.

1-0 to the Dodgers at half time and the 2nd half was greeted by a riot which only saw one player from each side taking damage.
The Dwarfs began their drive right down the middle of the pitch hitting a wall of mummies and zombies at the half way line. After a little stalling the dwarfs finally gave the undead a lesson in damage quickly sending 3 Dodgers players from the pitch. With the numbers on their side the dwarfs slowly advanced up the pitch and with 2 turns left were 10 yards form the end zone, just close enough to make it in the nick of time.

Undead desperation set in but they couldnt get the dwarf blitzer on the floor ( dodge and block is wonderful) finally as time drew to a close the dwarfs scored just before the final whistle was blown (2+ to socre on turn 8 of the 2nd half)

The game ended as a draw, the Coffin Dodgers still unbeaten and top of the table, where they should remain after week 4's games. For the dwarfs it was a well needed point before they face the Orcland Raiderz next week where a loss may see their season grind to a halt early on.

Lone Wolves Challenge Cup 2010 Week 3

Because of some absense only the one game this week

Friday, 29 January 2010

Five Alive O

‘‘Good evening sports fans and welcome to the Lone Wolves
Challenge Cup. Well the crowds may have been disappointing
tonight as they start to wander away from the stadium but we’ve
had some entertaining Blood Bowl this evening and one or two
surprises. So for those of you just in from the local tavern here’s
a few comments from Bob. Over to you Bob Bifford"

“Thanks Jim. Well there was some top class entertainment tonight
but not much was seen on the pitch I don’t know where the
Fangorn Rangers new coach is from but I doubt he’ll last the season
if the fans don’t do something about him the bookies may well do."

"I think you’re right Bob but that’s not the only upset of the night with
both the league favourites, the Clams and the Storm, languishing in mid table mediocrity "

"Well I dare say we’ll see some changes to both those teams next week but
until then Jim I’ll be heading over to the ‘Mummies Fist’ for a few beers with the dodgers”

Lone Wolves Challenge Cup 2010 Week 2 - Results

Week 2 is over and done with, didn't get as much chance to look over all the games so the reports will be short and sweet

Orcland Raiders 1 - 1 Invaders. (Attendance 19,000)

A close fought contest which saw both teams big guys spend a lot of time standing around doing nothing, especially the Chaos Minotaur who spent most of his time in the KO'd box
The latter part of the 2nd half was spent with both teams failing to get a grip on the ball and as time ran out neither team could grab it off the floor.
The final kick of the game was to the Raiderz troll, who had to regenerate to avoid missing a crunch encounter with the Bearded Clams

Fangorn Rangers 3 - 1 Storner Stoneheads (Attendance 7,000)

A poor fan turn out missed a classic as the Rangers grabbed 2 late scores to rack up the biggest amount of TD's in one game so far.
Whilst the game was still 1-1 the Rangers head coach could be seen handing in his P45, but after a big victory he has changed his mind and will be back next week to face the Invaders. One onlooker said that he heard the Elf coach say he'd be on the Wine next week so you better watch out Chaos scum!!

Bearded Clams 2 - 0 Warpstone Wanderers (Attendance 17,000)

The Clams made it look harder than it should have been finally scoring their 2nd late in the game. At half time it looked as if the rats could be in trouble with only 7 players on the pitch against the dwarfs 10.
The 2nd half wasn't all good news for the Wanderers as one of their Gutter Runners was killed and a 2nd TD was scored. As the game ended the rats could only field 4 players, with the rest of their team KO'd or injured.

Saurion Storm 1 - 2 Coffin Dodgers (Attendance 17,000)

A close game saw the Undead pull off a victory which sees them head the table after week 2. After taking the lead the Dodgers were dragged back to 1-1 at the half.
Unphased the Coffin Dodgers managed to score a 2nd against the head to secure a momentous victory.

Lone Wolves Challenge Cup 2010 Week 1 - Results

Well after many delays due to snow and ice the 3rd annual challenge cup finally got under way. For the 1st time ever in the history of the league 4 games were happening at the same time. This does make it a little difficult to give full match reports but I'll go with what I heard and saw and make some stuff up.

The Invaders 2 - 1 The Storner Stoneheads. (Attendance 17,000)

The return of the Invaders after their wooden spoon winning performance of challenge cup year one took on the Stoneheads. The Chaos dwarfs were a collection of out of retirement players from the 1st challenge cup winning Purple Helmets and rookies from the minor leagues.
A slow paced match saw Invaders score a late 2nd half touchdown to secure the win. The now unbeaten in 2 games Invaders (last game of season 1 and this game) rejoiced as star Bull Centaur Bishop had his ribs broken by the ferocious Invader fans midway through the 2nd half. Bishop is unlikely to return for next week against the Fangorn Rangers

Warpstone Wanderers 1 - 2 Orcland Raiderz. (Attendance 23,000)

The Rookie Warpstone Wanderers faced off against the Orcland Raiders in a one sided battle. The Orcs took an swift 2-0 lead and racked up the casualties in this brutal affair.
As the Orcs rejoiced knowing they had the rats beaten, something magical happened. Chanting from the terraces the Wanderer fans began to give their team tips on how to score, tactics and special plays. Bemused by the home teams support the Orcs lost their way a little and the Skaven managed to pull one TD back before the Orc head coach managed to get his team's heads back in the game.
Sadly not only did the Wanderers lose their 1st competitive game but they also lost long time fan Ray who was flattened in an Orc sandwich. Amusingly not only did he die in a sandwich this is also where Ray ended up as he became the after match snack for the Raider'z Troll Graz Nullhug

Coffin Dodgers 1 - 0 Fangorn Rangers (Attendance 20,000)

The Coffin Dodgers returned (from the dead?) to their 2nd challenge cup after winning the wooden spoon last year. They took on the newly formed (and newly disbanded?) Fangorn Rangers.
A lot of talk had the Wood Elves favourite and a lot of money had been rumoured to change hands. The Undead had other plans though and with the luck that only witchcraft can grant you proceeded to pound the elves into the dirt.
Fans were left disappointed when the game was abandoned at 1-0 just after the start of the 2nd half as head coach of the Rangers decided that it was better to retreat and lick his teams wounds (not literally) rather than lose more players to the bloodbowl obituaries.
The one bit of good news from the Elf camp was that they had managed to inflict a near career ending injury (smashed collar bone -1 Str) on star Ghoul Gug-Lug. Gug will not be back next week and may find he spends alot more time warming up the bench than playing for the rest of the season.

Saurion Storm 2 - 1 Bearded Clams (Attendance 21,000)

The 2 heavy weights and favourites to take each other on in the final met in the 1st week in what turned out to be a very close and some what nail biting affair.
The 1st half was very tense with both teams taking their time to settle into new season.
The 1st half ended goal less but the Clams were a few men down. Notorious Slayer Bori, bought it at the hands of the Storms stalwart Kroxigor and star blitzer Kili was sent off for fouling.
The foul was not all for nothing as it did briefly end the life of a Saurian skink, only for him to be revived by the team medic.
The 2nd half saw all the action, the Dwarfs scored early on with a long run from Fili but the Storm quickly replied with a swift skink combination.
The game looked to be going to a draw with 2 turns remaining but after blitz and a unbelievable dodge from a Saurus the Storm managed a last turn TD to win the game.

A Storm is Brewing

"Well sports fans, this years Lizard entry has just arrived for the 2010 Lone Wolves Tournament. Posing for fans and media alike outside the press conference, they certainly look eager and ready for the challenge. Good job too as they'll be facing off against the dwarves in the first round"

"Yes Jim, they'll need all the luck they can get to get through the first round unscathed but if they don't, at least McMurty's will have a plentiful supply for their Skink on a Stick special..mmm, I'm off to get one."
